The church was first mentioned in written sources in 1434. The simple church, with its white plaster exterior, has a rich Baroque interior. In 1776, the village of Loče burned down and the flames did not spare the church either. That is why the interior is much younger.

Of the original church, built by the Carthusians in the 14th century, the outer walls, the nave and the fresco on the outer south wall remain.

This church is in fact the legacy left by the incomparable Seitz Charterhouse in the hidden valley of St. John the Baptist. It is the so-called Ecclesia minor or lower church of this monumental monastery, which served the needs of the lay brothers. Built around 1190, it is considered one of the most important monuments of the late Romanesque period.

In 2022, the walls of the former Carthusian church were supplemented and a roof structure was added, which shows the historic roof on the south side and is open on the north side. A ceiling hanging on ropes is lowered onto the walls.

Margrave Ottokar III founded the monastery in 1165 and entrusted it to the Carthusian Order. He compensated his vassal Ortolf von Gonobitz for the remote lands with other goods. Both Ottokar III himself and his wife and son Ottokar IV were buried in the monastery. At the time of the Great Western Schism, Pope Urban VI moved the seat of the General Chapter of the Carthusian Order to Seiz. It remained there for almost two decades (1391–1410). After a turbulent history, the monastery was one of the first to be dissolved by Emperor Joseph II in 1782 and the extensive properties at the time, including the Seizerhof and the Gonobitz estate, were incorporated into the religious fund. The Carthusian monastery itself was left to decay. It was not until 1826 that it was sold along with the Gonobitz estate to Weriand, Prince of Windisch-Grätz.

Kartause von Zice was settled in 1160 and founded by the Styrian border count Otokar V von Traungau in 1165. The monks also looked after the travelers and guests. The Carthusian monastery in Seitz was founded in the 12th century. Some buildings are still preserved or accessible as ruins. In the monastery there is a well prepared museum. With audio guides you can learn a lot of interesting facts. Overall, a very impressive complex, which in many ways is reminiscent of the ancestral monastery of La Grande Chartreuse in France. In the monastery there is a herbal pharmacy where you can buy all kinds of medicines, ointments, elixirs and spirits. A really mystical place - an unconditional recommendation. You should bring some time and peace to enjoy the place.
