The military harbor of Peschiera had to be deepened by over 2 m in 1861 to accommodate a newly built gunboat for the Garda flotilla. When digging with a so-called paternoster excavator north of the Querini Bastion, numerous bronze objects were unearthed. These were kept by the Austrian first lieutenant Heinrich von Silber and the naval engineer Lorentz. Von Silber suspected that a ship with the items on board had once sunk here. Numerous tree trunks that were rammed into the lake bottom made the work more difficult, so it was thought that there was a fishing hut here, which is often found on Lake Garda, which is why the pottery shards that were found were disposed of. However, after von Silber contacted the archaeologist Johannes Freudenberg from Bonn, the realization emerged that there had once been a pile-dwelling settlement here. One of the three things to do in Peschiera is to admire the Venetian walls. They are part of the Venetian defensive bulwarks of the 16th century. and XVII. Bella Italia - the entire lake and surrounding area is incredibly beautiful - it's hard to put it into words. Mountainous in the north, rather flat in the south, mostly quite coarse pebble beach and yet there is a wonderfully fine sandy beach along the east coast. Wonderful climate.
