Monteleone di Puglia, the highest municipality in the region at 842 meters above sea level, offers one of the most picturesque viewpoints in the Daunia region. Savignano Irpino dominates the Cervaro Valley from a rocky spur, with a compact historic center and sweeping views of the hills that mark the border between Campania and Puglia. The climb to reach it is arduous, but the arrival is rewarded with evocative views, stone alleys, and the silhouette of the aqueduct bridge, one of the village's symbols.

Founded in the 7th century by the Lombards, the Benevento Cathedral reached its zenith in the 12th-13th centuries when it was rebuilt in the Romanesque style and adorned with its famous bronze doors. Tragically, the cathedral was almost completely destroyed by Allied bombing in 1943, though its greatest treasure—the bronze doors—was saved. After the war, the cathedral was reconstructed in a modern Romanesque style and reconsecrated in 1965, becoming a powerful symbol of the city's resilience where visitors can still see the surviving original façade, the bell tower, and the rescued doors.

September 23, 2025 The picnic area is now nonexistent, everything is destroyed and abandoned, including the lake, which has almost become a puddle. It was truly sad to see all this. I went eight years ago, and everything was different. The area, once well-kept and maintained, is now populated by flies, horseflies, hornets, and a total wasteland.
