With Marzabotto massacre, or Monte Sole massacre, we mean the set of brutal massacres carried out by the Nazi troops between 29 September and 5 October 1944, in the context of the mopping-up operation directed against the Partisan Brigade Stella Rossa, which fought against the Nazi-fascist forces in the territories between Marzabotto, Monzuno, Grizzana Morandi and neighboring municipalities. It is one of the most serious war crimes against the civilian population perpetrated by the German armed forces in Western Europe during the Second World War.
