The Chaparral Peak via Stonewall-Panoramic Trail is a fantastic choice if you're after a quick, intense climb with an incredible visual reward. This moderate 2.9-mile (4.6 km) hike takes you up a steep dirt track, often gravelly and slippery, through eucalyptus groves and ridgeline chaparral. As you ascend, the landscape unfolds to reveal breathtaking panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay, including the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and the city skyline, making every step of the 1341 feet (409 metres) of elevation gain worth it. You'll find numerous spots to pause and take in the scenery, including the notable Spiral Knob Viewpoint.
Planning your visit means lacing up your best hiking shoes with good tread, as the Stonewall Peak hiking difficulty comes from its continuous, steep uphill sections and loose ground. The estimated duration is around 1 hour and 39 minutes, but allow extra time for soaking in the views. Parking can fill up, so an early start is always a good idea, especially on weekends.
