    Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs wurde ein Sunderland-Flugboot nach einem Luftkampf gegen acht deutsche Flugzeuge über dem Golf von Biskaya schwer beschädigt. Die Besatzung kehrte 800 Meilen zur Küste Cornwalls zurück, wo das Flugzeug bei Praa Sands unterging. Die Einwohner von Praa Sands nahmen die Besatzung in ihre Häuser auf und leisteten medizinische Hilfe. Am 2. Juni 2013 wurde auf dem Grün von Praa Sands ein Denkmal eröffnet.

    Praa Sands ist ein 1,5 km langer Strand mit schönem weißem Sand. Es gibt einen Parkplatz in der Nähe und anscheinend eignen sich die Untiefen recht gut zum Paddeln und Schwimmen, obwohl die Wellen weiter draußen eher für Surfbegeisterte geeignet sind. Wie an vielen Stränden in dieser Gegend gilt in den Sommermonaten ein Hundeverbot.
