    Portage Lake ist ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel in der Nähe von Anchorage und lockt Besucher mit seinen malerischen Reizen an. Einst ein Standort für Eisberge, hat sich das Aussehen des Sees aufgrund von Gletscherverschiebungen verändert. Obwohl seltener, schwimmen immer noch Gletschereisbrocken vorbei.

    Einst konnte man von diesem Aussichtspunkt aus den Portage-Gletscher sehen. Mittlerweile ist er hinter eine Ecke des Gebirges zurückgewichen, so dass man von hier aus nur noch den vom Gletscher zurückgelassenen See sehen kann und ab und zu noch ein paar Eisberge vorbeitreiben. Dennoch ist der See selbst unglaublich schön und das kleine Besucherzentrum in der Nähe ist interessant zu besuchen ... sofern es geöffnet ist.
