Der ehemalige Außenposten der Coutances-Befestigung ist nach den Besitzern der Burg aus dem 11. bis 14. Jahrhundert benannt. Die Herren von Pirou waren mit dem Haus De Hauteville verwandt, zu dem mehrere ùde-Gründer des normannischen Königreichs in Sizilien gehörten.
    Bis zum Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts befand sich das Schloss im Besitz verschiedener Adelsfamilien, bevor es zu einem wichtigen Schmugglernest wurde und schließlich im 19. Jahrhundert in einen Bauernhof umgewandelt wurde.
