Clickimin Broch is a remarkably well-preserved Iron Age broch situated on a promontory within Clickimin Loch, just southwest of Lerwick, the capital of the Shetland Islands in Scotland. Standing at an elevation of approximately 5 meters above sea level, this significant historical site offers a unique glimpse into ancient Scottish life and architecture. It is an outstanding example of a broch, a sophisticated type of stone-built roundhouse unique to Scotland, and represents over a thousand years of continuous settlement.

    Die Gebäude, deren Ruinen hier erhalten sind, könnten sich über einen Zeitraum von fast 1.000 Jahren zwischen etwa 800 und 700 v. Chr. entwickelt haben. Der Broch-Turm wurde irgendwann zwischen 400 und 100 v. Chr. erbaut. Wissenschaftler diskutieren immer noch darüber, ob es sich um ein prestigeträchtiges Anwesen, eine befestigte Festung oder beides handelte – die Beweise sind nicht schlüssig.

    Nach einigen Jahrhunderten wurde die Höhe der Broschüre verringert und im Inneren neu aufgebaut. Die Bewohner dieses späteren Gebäudes waren bedeutende Persönlichkeiten, die importierten Luxus genossen – hier wurden Fragmente einer verzierten römischen Glasschale gefunden.
