    Historisch bedeutender Ort der Sfakia auf einer Hochebene in ca 500 m Höhe zwischen Meer und Weißen Bergen. Von hier startete 1770 der Aufstand des Daskalogiannis, dem das Marmordenkmal auf dem Hauptplatz gewidmet ist. In der Antike war Anopolis (=Oberstadt) eine größere Stadt und bildete eine Einheit mit der Hafen-"Unterstadt", dem heutigen Lutro.
