    Dschalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī – kurz Rumi genannt – im Persischen meist Maulawī genannt (geboren am 30. September 1207 in Balch, heute in Afghanistan, gestorben am 17. Dezember 1273 in Konya), war ein persischer Sufi-Mystiker, Gelehrter und einer der bedeutendsten persischsprachigen Dichter des Mittelalters. Von seinen Anhängern, insbesondere den Derwischen, erhielt er den Beinamen Maulana (türkische Schreibweise: Mevlânâ) für „unser Herr/Meister“. Nach ihm ist der Mevlevi-Derwisch-Orden benannt.
