    Der Tour de la Chaîne ist neben dem Tour Saint-Nicolas und dem Tour de la Lanterne einer der drei Türme an der Strandpromenade von La Rochelle und einer der beiden emblematischen Türme des Alten Hafens, dessen majestätisches Eingangstor er bildet. Von diesem Turm aus wurde die Kette bedient, die im Saint-Nicolas-Turm am anderen Ufer befestigt war und den Zugang zum Hafen verhinderte. Am 17. Februar 1879 wurde es unter Denkmalschutz gestellt.
