    Die Außenfortanlagen der Festung Küstrin: Zorndorf, Säpzig, Tschernow und Gorgast. Die schnelle Entwicklung der Artillerietechnik im 19. Jahrhundert, zwang die alte „Feste Cüstrin“ sich mit äußeren Werken zu verstärken. Da sie nicht mehr in der Lage war, sich selbst zu schützen. Die Festung Küstrin sicherte den Übergang auf der Oder und zählte 1872 zum Kreis der wichtigsten deutschen Festungsanlagen. Fort Zorndorf wurde 1883 bis 1887 aus 28 Millionen doppelt gebrannter Ziegel erbaut. Es war das letzte im Deutschen Reich erbaute Einheitsfort vom Typ Biehler.
