    Vor der Evangelischen Stadtpfarrkirche steht die 1899 enthüllte Statue des Bischofs Georg Daniel Teutsch, gestaltet vom Bildhauer Adolf von Donndorf. Teutsch (1917 bis 1893) war von 1867 an Bischof der Evangelischen Kirche in Siebenbürgen. Er arbeitete als Lehrer, Theologe, Historiker und Politiker. Als Anhänger der Autonomie vollendete Teutsch die Vereinigung der sächsischen Gemeinden in der Sächsischen Evangelischen Kirche. Er bemühte sich, die sprachliche und kulturelle Integrität zu wahren, und widersetzte sich in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts vehement der von der Pesta-Regierung angeordneten Politik der Ungarisierung von Bildung und Verwaltung.
