    Der Grotenhoutbos ist einer der ältesten Wälder in den Kempen
    Grotenhout, auch Gierlese-Wald genannt, liegt südwestlich von Turnhout an der Grenze der Gemeinden Lille und Vosselaar. Mit seinen 300 Hektar ist es eines der größten und ältesten Wälder der Kempen. Das Gebiet umfasst etwa 100 Hektar über hundert Jahre alten Eichenwald sowie Buchen-, Eschen- und Erlenwälder.

    Der Wechsel von nährstoffreichem Untergrund und Magerrasen sorgt für eine große Pflanzenvielfalt. Moschuskraut, Buschwindröschen, Breitblättriges Goldkraut, Schlanke Primel, Blauer Knoten und Erdstern sind nur einige Beispiele der mehr als 360 häufig vorkommenden Arten.
