    Carlow Castle wurde Anfang des 13. Jahrhunderts erbaut und ersetzte an derselben Stelle einen älteren Lehm- und Holzbau.

    Die Burg wurde als klassischer viertürmiger Bergfried errichtet – ein großer rechteckiger Baukörper mit Rundtürmen an jeder Ecke. Heute ist nur noch ein Teil der Anlage erhalten, die Westmauer mit zwei originalen Türmen; der Rest liegt in Trümmern.
