Es scheint, dass der berühmte Philosoph Sokrates hier eingesperrt war. Sokrates hatte innovative Ideen, die mit den Ideen der alten Griechen kollidierten. Dafür ging er ins Gefängnis. Während seines Prozesses verbrachte er wahrscheinlich im Gefängnis auf dem Philopappos-Hügel. Nach seinem Gefängnisaufenthalt wurde er für schuldig befunden und vergiftet.
