    Der Syntagma-Platz ist auch als Platz der Verfassung bekannt, da sich hier die Athener am 3. September 1843 gegen König Otto von Griechenland erhoben, um eine Verfassung zu fordern.

    Der Platz wird vom hellenischen Parlament geleitet, einem imposanten Gebäude, das zwischen 1836 und 1842 als Königspalast für den ersten König von Griechenland, König Otto, errichtet wurde.


    Vor dem Parlamentsgebäude befindet sich das Grabmal des unbekannten Soldaten, das Tag und Nacht von den „Evzones“ bewacht wird, zwei Präsidentengarden in einer kuriosen traditionellen Uniform.
