    Die Burg von Marigny-le-Cahouët wird zum ersten Mal im Jahr 1189 erwähnt, als Hugo III., Herzog von Burgund, sie seinem Sohn Alexandre, dem Herrn von Montaigu, schenkte. Die Burg wurde vermutlich zu Beginn dieses Jahrhunderts erbaut. Im Laufe der folgenden Jahrhunderte wurde die Burg von ihren aufeinanderfolgenden Besitzern in eine Festung umgewandelt; darunter die Familien Villars, La Beaume, Avancourt und Orgemont.
