Fort Ordener wurde zur gleichen Zeit gebaut und mit dem Ziel, Fort Bessoncourt zu bedecken. Seine Aufgabe bestand darin, die aus der Schweiz kommenden Straßen sowie die Eisenbahnlinie von Mülhausen zu kontrollieren.
Ab 1893 war dieses Fort durch eine strategische Eisenbahn mit einer Reihe anderer Forts in der Umgebung von Belfort verbunden.
Während der beiden Weltkriege war Fort Ordener inaktiv. Es wird dann als Munitionsdepot für die Armee genutzt.
