The Former Town Hall of Abcoude, also known as the "Gemeente- en polderhuis," holds significant historical value as it served as the administrative center for the former municipality of Abcoude-Proostdij from its construction in 1882-1883. It was built in the distinctive 19th-century Waterstaat style and also housed the local police station for decades. Its existence reflects a change in Dutch law prohibiting municipal meetings in establishments serving alcohol, leading to the need for a dedicated civic building.
