Die Kirche wurde 1826–1829 unter der Aufsicht des Ministeriums für Wasserwirtschaft nach einem Entwurf der Architekten J. Backx und T.W. erbaut. Konrad. Das Gebäude ersetzte das abgerissene Kirchengebäude aus der Zeit um 1600. Ursprünglich stand an dieser Stelle eine mittelalterliche Kirche, die 1595 im Achtzigjährigen Krieg niederbrannte.
