Aufgewachsen in der Zeit der Einzelgrabkultur (ca. 2850-2450 v. Chr.) als letzte Ruhestätte einer bedeutenden Person.
Viele Jahre später, in der mittleren Bronzezeit (ca. 1800-1100 v. Chr.), wurden zwei weitere Gräber in den Hügel gebaut.
Bei dieser Gelegenheit wurde der Hügel angehoben und ringsum eingegraben. In der Bronzezeit war dieser Hügel Teil eines viel größeren Gräberfeldes und später eines großen Urnenfeldes.
Der Name "Eppies Bargie" leitet sich vom Namen eines ehemaligen Besitzers des angrenzenden Grundstücks ab, einem Egbert (Eppie) Vos, der sich auf dem Hügel erhängt haben soll.
