    Der kleine See ist ein sogenannter Sodasee und ist reich an einer Vielzahl von Mineralien wie Calcium, Natriumsulfat und Magnesiumsulfat. Während der Sommermonate steigt die Konzentration der Mineralien an und sie werden an verschiedenen Stellen in Form von Tümpeln sichtbar. Deshalb hat der See seinen Namen. Während des Ersten Weltkriegs wurde hier übrigens täglich teilweise bis zu einer Tonne Salz abgebaut und für die Munitionsproduktion verwendet.
