    Das Fort Saint-Elme liegt über den kleinen Buchten von Collioure und Port-Vendres.
    Auf dem Fundament eines Leuchtturms aus dem 8. Jahrhundert ließ Kaiser Karl V. 1538 eine revolutionäre Festung in Sternform erbauen: ohne tote Winkel, mit schrägen, mehreren Metern dicken Mauern, die der modernsten Artillerie jener Zeit standhielten. Im 17. Jahrhundert möchte Vauban Port-Vendres zu einem außerordentlich wichtigen Militärhafen mit dem Fort Saint Elme als Grundpfeiler ausbauen. In Fort Saint-Elme trafen Habsburger und Valois aufeinander, danach die Bourbonen. Es erzählt daher eine fünfhundert Jahre alte, größtenteils unbekannte Geschichte.
