    Skagen, die nördlichste Stadt Dänemarks, ist eine ebenso bedeutende wie malerische Hafenstadt an der Nordspitze von Jütland. Das einzigartige Licht der Sommermonate zwischen zwei Meeren faszinierte Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts zahlreiche durch den französischen Naturalismus und Realismus, später auch Impressionismus inspirierte skandinavische Maler, die hier eine Künstlerkolonie gründeten und in der Kunstgeschichte unter dem Namen «Skagensmalerne» bekannt sind.
    Auch heute noch ist das Stadtbild von Skagen geprägt durch kleine, ockergelb verputzte Häuser mit roten, weiß verfugten Ziegeldächern und ebenfalls strahlend weißen Fensterrahmen.
