    Dieses Gotteshaus ist Jakobus dem Älteren (Saint-Jacques) geweiht, dem vermutlich (neben Petrus und Paulus) prominentesten Apostel und Nationalheiligen von Spanien. Das europäische Netz der Jakobswege führt, meist durch das Symbol der gelben Muschel auf blauem Hintergrund gekennzeichnet, die Pilger zu seinem Grab. Dieses befindet sich im nordspanischen Ort 'Santiago de Compostella', wo er in einer großartigen, zu seinen Ehren errichteten Basilika ruht.
    Das Martyrium (Hinrichtung) des Jakobus ist vom Evangelisten Lukas in der neutestamentlichen "Apostelgeschichte" überliefert. Der Festtag von Sankt Jakobus im Heiligenkalender ist am 25. Juli.
