    Die katholische St.-Johannes-Basilika am Marktplatz in Oosterhout ist eine dreischiffige gotische Kreuzkirche aus der zweiten Hälfte des 15. Jahrhunderts (um 1475), flankiert von einem zweiten Seitenschiff aus dem Jahr 1882. Der heutige Turm stammt aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. Die Kirche wurde auf den Überresten einer wesentlich älteren Tuffsteinkirche errichtet, die vermutlich zwischen 1000 und 1100 erbaut wurde.

    Im Jahr 1625, während des Achtzigjährigen Krieges, wurden große Teile der Kirche und des Turmwerks bei den Gefechten um die Belagerung von Breda (1624–1625) durch ein Feuer zerstört.

    Aus Ausgrabungen ist bekannt, dass sich dort bereits im Jahr 1277 eine romanische dreischiffige Kirche befand. Der Ersatz dieser Kirche durch eine Kirche im gotischen Stil begann um 1473. Die Kirche wurde 1493 fertiggestellt. Der Turm wurde von 1519 bis 1552 erbaut. Er wurde vom Turm der Grote Kerk von Breda inspiriert, wurde jedoch nie fertiggestellt. In späteren Jahrhunderten wurde die Kirche mehrmals renoviert.
