    Mit 1.473 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel liegt der Gipfel des Monte Giarolo im sogenannten ligurischen Apennin, aber in der Provinz Alessandria im Piemont. Es ist der nördlichste Punkt der Antola-Kette und trennt die Täler Borbera und Curone. Auf der Spitze steht eine Statue von Christus dem Erlöser.

    Das Fest des Erlösers wird auf dem Monte Giarolo seit Beginn des letzten Jahrhunderts gefeiert, als am 11. August 1901 die erste Statue des Erlösers errichtet (genau hundert Jahre später durch die neue ersetzt) wurde, um das Fest zu feiern 19. Jahrestag der Geburt Christi. Die Einweihung erfolgte durch den Bischof von Tortona, der zu diesem Anlass eine Diözesanwallfahrt veranstaltete, an der etwa 12.000 Gläubige teilnahmen.
    Seitdem begeben sich jedes Jahr am ersten Sonntag im August Touristen und Gläubige auf den Gipfel des Berges, um die Tradition zu erneuern.

Hier steht vielmehr auf einem in zwei Abschnitten unterteilten Podest die Figur des Auferstandenen mit Kreuznimbus. Christus hat einen Arm zum Gruß – oder besser gesagt: zum Segen – erhoben, mit dem anderen umfasst er das Kreuz, jenes Zeichen von Leid und Tod, das er durch seine Auferstehung zum Zeichen des Sieges über den Tod gemacht hat.
