Diese Backsteinkirche wurde vom Architekten de Perre-Montigny im romanischen Stil entworfen. Der Bau begann 1868 und die Kirche wurde 1872 fertiggestellt; 1874 folgte die Einweihung. Diese Kultstätte ersetzte die 1874 abgerissene Kirche am Pontweg nahe der Schelde am westlichen Ende der Kerkstraat.
In diese basilikale, dreischiffige Kirche mit zweijochigem Presbyterium ist der 45 m hohe Kirchturm eingebaut. Es ist nüchtern gestaltet mit Strebepfeilern, die die Höhe des Kirchenschiffs verstärken, und mit Rundbogenfenstern. Das Portal wird von einem Rundbogen auf Säulen umrahmt.
