    Die orthodoxe Metropolitankathedrale am Avram-Iancu-Platz wurde von 1923 bis 1933 unmittelbar nach der Vereinigung Siebenbürgens mit Rumänien erbaut. Sie ist eines der wichtigsten religiösen Gebäude der Stadt. Die Kirche ist der „Himmelfahrt der Jungfrau Maria“ gewidmet. 1973, als der Eparchialsitz Cluj in den Rang eines Erzbistums erhoben wurde, wurde das Gotteshaus zur erzbischöflichen Kathedrale. Seit 2006 dient das Gebäude als Kathedrale der Erzdiözese Vad, Feleac und Cluj, die auch Sitz der Metropoliten Cluj, Maramureș und Sălaj ist. Derzeit ist sie nach der Evangelischen Kathedrale von Sibiu und der Metropolitankathedrale von Timișoara die dritthöchste Kathedrale Rumäniens.
