    Im Jahr 1849 wurde das einzige Hünenbett Frieslands zufällig gefunden und sofort abgerissen. Später wurden an dieser Stelle Untersuchungen zum Hunebett durchgeführt. Es stellte sich heraus, dass es sich um einen Steinkasten von 4,5 mal 1,2 Metern handelte. Heutzutage können Sie hier eine Nachbildung sehen, um einen Eindruck davon zu bekommen, wie es früher ausgesehen haben muss.

    Der Forstarbeiter Herman Wessels stolperte über diesen Ort im März 1849, als er einen Graben auf ein paar großen Felsbrocken grub.

    Die Felsbrocken wurden entfernt und für den Straßenpflaster verwendet. Später stellte sich heraus, dass dies das bisher einzige bekannte "Hunebed" von Friesland zerstörte.

    Das Grab wurde dreimal untersucht, 1849, 1919 und 1996. Die jüngste Untersuchung ergab, dass dies kein Dolmen war. Merkmale eines Dolmen sind genau die manngroßen Steine und die Konstruktion (teilweise) über dem Boden. Dieses Grab war eine sogenannte Steinkiste, eine Konstruktion einer tiefen Grube mit relativ kleinen Steinen.
