Radsport-Erinnerung: Die Läufer erreichten den Col du Galibier, indem sie die heute fast unpassierbare alte Straße erklommen. Diese alte, sehr schwierige Straße begann zwei Kilometer unterhalb des Lautaret-Passes in Richtung Briançon, unmittelbar links nach der Brücke über den Wildbach Galibier. Die neue Straße (D 902) wurde 1938 eröffnet. Die alte Schutzhütte wurde zwischen 1870 und 1880 gebaut. Die neue Schutzhütte stammt aus dem Jahr 1937.
Heute ist diese Straße sehr angenehm zu wandern.
