1985 wurde die „Stichting de Medemblikker Meelmolen“ gegründet und das Achteck der 300 Jahre alten Zaanse-Ölmühle De Herder gekauft. Diese Mühle stand von 1695 bis 1903 zwischen Jisp und Wormer und dann mehr als 80 Jahre in Willeskop.
Ab 1986 begannen begeisterte Freiwillige und professionelle Mühlenbauer, die Mühle in Willeskop abzubauen und in Medemblik wieder aufzubauen.
