Viking ship is the name for the types of ship that were mainly used in Northern Europe during the Viking Age (800-1100), but were also built and used after the Viking Age. The ships are differentiated according to their size and function into longships, Knorr and smaller ships.
The first archaeological finds from the Vikings were grave goods from high standing persons and, like other grave goods, were intended to help the deceased on their journey to the afterlife.
