One of the most special trail sections I've ever ridden. The drive through the Gondo fort is impressive and definitely worth the trip!

Fort Gondo was built entirely into the mountain during World War II. The fortress can be reached from above via a long tunnel that can be used by bike. It served to defend the strategically important Simplon Pass against attackers from the south. Coming from Gondo, one climbs a steep path and stairs to the fort. From below only loopholes and a cannon are visible.
