Until the introduction of the Reformation, the Oude Kerk was dedicated to St. Anthony Abbas. The church, located directly on the North Sea coast on the dike, was largely rebuilt after a flood in 1470 in the form of a pseudo-basilica. The five-sided closed choir, which is higher than the long house, already existed at this time. The long house itself followed around 1500, it was set against 1525 the west tower. The octagonal upper floor of the tower finds a correspondence in the nearby abbey church Loosduinen (Wikipedia).
