During the Thirty Years' War, Buchheim was looted and burned by the Swedes. Even though the residents had fled to the forests, they were tracked down and relentlessly killed. The town of Buchheim was destroyed and has not been built up. Only a part of the church at that time remained. This remaining section was later expanded into the current chapel.
