Vandring
Located high up and not so easy to spot, the climb is worthwhile, if only for the view. The small church has been restored but is not open. You can go inside the ruins, but there's no information available. That's a shame. Be careful, as the railing is shaky and the stairs are not suitable for slippers.

Vandring
During the Venetian rule, the village was called San Giovanni, but was renamed Charakas because of the large rock on the western side of the village, 35 meters high and about 60 meters wide. This type of rock in Crete is called "charaki." A castle and a church stand atop the rock. The rock is only accessible from the northwest and is a monolithic tomb.
