Reaching Bernardin Lake takes a steady climb through forest and open meadow before the water comes into view—a quiet alpine pond surrounded by gentle slopes and pines. Though small and without fish, the lake is a welcome sight in this high country, offering several informal campsites along its southern and eastern shores. A forest road runs nearby, but visitors are infrequent, leaving the lake peaceful and remote within the Carson National Forest.
