In the course of the establishment of the Seefliegerhorste Großenbrode 1938 the pier was built to protect the lake from storm. This function is still outstanding today, now there are two marinas with hundreds of boats.

Cykling
The pier, built in 1938, protects the inland lake from storms. Cycling is allowed on it and it is delightful to drive to the top and enjoy the great views. It is also very interesting to watch the kite surfers how they dominate the wind and waves.
