Zerbst Palace was the Baroque residence of the Princes of Anhalt-Zerbst and was built starting in 1681. It is famous as the birthplace of Sophie Auguste Friederike of Anhalt-Zerbst, the future Empress Catherine the Great. The palace was severely damaged in 1945 during World War II; only a secured ruin with a palace park remains. Today, Zerbst Palace is an important memorial and cultural site that hints at the former grandeur of the residence and is used for guided tours and events.
