Until a few years ago, Gubbels focused primarily on painting and graphic design. While the theme of his work remains the same, he continues to innovate. In recent years, he has also been working in three dimensions. The two sculptures in the Castle Garden are examples of this.

Vandring
The work in the castle garden, the original aluminum sculpture of which is in Antwerp, is one of Bertoni's abstract works. The title refers to the myth of Daedalus and Icarus. Father and son attempt to escape from an island using homemade wings. But the enthusiastic Icarus flies too high toward the sun, and the wax that attaches his wings to his body melts, causing him to fall into the sea.
