The Port of Cesenatico is also called Porto Canale Leonardesco, as it dates back to 1502, the year in which Leonardo da Vinci visited the city to build its infrastructure. It is a central place where the social life of the town takes place, here there are many shops, bars and restaurants.

The Porto Canale is the main axis around which the historic center of Cesenatico revolves and on whose docks the social life and promenade of citizens and tourists still take place. The canal is the showcase of Cesenatico, a showcase of lights and colors, where restaurants, shops and old colorful fishermen's houses dominate the picture. Leonardo designed the canal on behalf of Cesare Borgia and recorded a kind of "historical photo" of ancient Cesenatico in one of his legendary notebooks, the "Codex L".
