The history of the border companies is vividly described here and the life of the border soldiers is examined in more detail. The effort of the surveillance state at that time becomes clear here. People lived in isolation and under guard in the border region. Anyone who says today that Germany is not a democracy has forgotten this part of history. Anyone who grew up in the exclusion zone knows the truth.
