The Church of Our Lady is the older of Bitburg's two churches. It has been a parish church for over 1,000 years. It was built at the highest point in town. The church is dedicated to the Mother of God.

On the dominating hill in Bitburg there was already a place of worship in Roman times. Today the Liebfrauenkirche stands there, the structure of which shows the remains of various earlier Romanesque and Gothic buildings. In 1471, the single-nave hall church was expanded with a south-facing aisle. In 1822 the Romanesque choir tower, which had become dilapidated, was removed and a new choir building was built on this site, today's baptistery. The Rococo altar from 1794 with the "Luxembourg Madonnas" comes from the demolished St. Peter's Church. It was probably made in Himmerod Monastery.
