During my walk along the Swalm, I only encountered one fisherman, but with a fishing permit, it's certainly permitted. Moreover, the Swalm is reportedly a good pike-fishing water in the quieter sections, and perch are also plentiful. It's no wonder, then, that these two fish species are also featured in the series of wooden statues along the Swalmen nature trail. You can read more about both species on the sign attached to the statue. Incidentally, you can also find perch and pike-perch in the Swalm, just like in the Maasplassen.
