In 1999 the 750th anniversary of the church was celebrated. Built as a small chapel around 1250 on the right bank of the Blies, it was for centuries a branch church of the ancient mother church of St. Martin (9th century), which was on the left side of the Blies, the old village town of "Lympach" (today the old town), in the area of today's cemetery was standing. In honor of the then well-known Landgravine Elisabeth of Thuringia, who was canonized in 1235, Countess Loretta of Saarbrücken dedicated the chapel she built to St. Elizabeth.
