The Gotzasteine (also known as idol stones) are rare, strange rock formations that exhibit monumental characteristics and possess special cultural significance.
As fertility sites, these rock formations were sought out by women when they were unable to bear children. It was believed that life was in the stone and came from the stone (Megalithic culture). The natural rock was regarded as a life-giver. It was therefore only natural for women to hope for the blessing of children by making a sacrifice at these three phallus-like rock spires. However, during the Christianization process, these fertility symbols were condemned as idol stones.
