Honningsvåg (also Sørvågen[1]; Kven: Vooki[2]) is a town in the municipality of Nordkapp in Finnmark county, Norway. The town is the administrative center of Nordkapp and has a population of 2,255 (as of January 1, 2024).[3] Fishing and tourism are important sources of income for the town, which was destroyed at the end of World War II and subsequently rebuilt. At the North Cape, specifically on the island of Magerøya, there are no permanent reindeer herds. The reindeer are brought to the island by the Norwegian Navy in landing craft in the spring and swim back to the mainland in the fall. They spend the winter on the mainland where there is more shelter and food.

Reindeer are an important part of Sami culture and have been kept as livestock for centuries, especially in Northern Norway. The reindeer at the North Cape are bred by the Sami people and play an important role in their traditional way of life.
